Shimo-kitazawa is a popular shopping district in Setagaya ward, a high-end residential with its beautiful parks and greenery. It's not just frequented by its neighbours but also by people living in or near Tokyo, as it's trendy shops and restaurants attract a wide variety of customers. It has its own share of pawn shops and stores that sell used clothing that you can browse. You may find what you've been looking for:)
You will not only see a wide variety of ethnic food restaurants ranging from Chinese, Indian, or that doner kebab joint just around some corner. You will also see plenty of ramen shops littering the area. In a way, it's a lot like Nakano, although it doesn't have its retro atmosphere.

If you walk a little further away from the station's north exit, you will bump into alleys that will lead you slightly downhill. Now walk down the alley and you will eventually walk into Ichibangai shopping street, which is a popular area among the young generation. You will see so many bars and izakayas, not to mention salons and ramen shops. My friend, who is also an Airbnb host, used to run a bar in the Ichibangai area. But due to certain issues, he had to close the doors in just 3 months.....
You can get to Shimo-kitazawa using the Odakyu lines from Shinjuku, or Keio Lines from Shibuya. The good thing about going to Shimo-kitazawa is that you can go directly from those 2 major stations without transferring on the way. If you want to get there quickly, I would recommend using the express train instead of the local one, as it will stop at every station on the way.
